School Visits and Speaking Schedule

 

Hudson Talbott visits schools, conferences, and civic centers throughout the year giving presentations based on the subject matter of his books, and coordinated with the current curriculum standards. His programs always include a visual component - slides, video, and/or demonstrations. The current topics are based on the following books:

 

River of Dreams: The Story of the Hudson River ( Grades 2 and up)

The Hudson River has been a source of inspiration and a means of livelihood to all who have lived along its shores. It played a key role in the settling of the New World and the outcome of the Revolutionary War, and was the birthplace of the environmental movement. Each appealing spread sheds exciting light on the river's strategic, economic and cultural signifi cance. Packed with facts, timelines and maps, this is a wonderful introduction to a wide range of topics including the Age of Exploration, the Erie Canal, the Industrial Age, American arts and literature and the environment.

Welcome to the United Tweets Pageant! This colorful parade of state birds competing to be Top Tweet will have readers of all ages laughing aloud. From Alabama’s Yellowhammer to Wyoming’s Western Meadowlark, each bird is a winner—and each bird loves to show off the state it calls home. Hudson Talbott has created an inspired introduction to states and their birds. His vibrant, detailed illustrations infuse the birds’ interactions with energy and humor, making this a great way to spark kids’ interest in United States history, geography, and, of course, wildlife!


Tales of King Arthur series ( Grades 3 and up) The moral code by which we live today was first defined in the dramatic adventures of the Knights of the Round Table. Hudson often gives an example of their ongoing impact on us by 
linking to the following example of modern day heroism. 

Forging Freedom ( Grades 4 and up) The true story of Holocaust rescuer Jaap Penraat, who saved over 400 lives, Jaap often joins Hudson for this program. It offers a concrete response to the mandates for teaching the Holocaust and for character education.

Leonardo's Horse ( Grades 2 and up) An introduction to the world of Renaissance master Leonardo da Vinci, this program also provides an opportunity to show the step-by-step process of creating a book, from original sketch to printed volume.

O'Sullivan Stew ( Grades K to 2) Designed for younger age groups, this program shares the joys of Irish storytelling.

Amazon Diary/ Safari Journal ( Grades 4 and up) Based on Hudson's own travels in the Amazon Rainforest and equatorial Africa, the adventure stories and the accompanying slide presentation provide an exciting alternative foraddressing issues of indigenous, nonwestern cultures and their respective environments. It is also an excellent opportunity to stimulate imaginative 
journal-keeping.

Writing Workshops/ Art workshops ( Grades 4 and up) Workshops can be arranged to accommodate the schedule and needs of the host. They concentrate on Hudson's insights as a professional, focusing on issues of generating inspiration and idea development, and articulating personal expression.
