Amazon Diary
The tale of Alex Winters, a sixth grader from Chicago on his way to visit his parents in South America. When his small plane crashes in the Amazon Jungle he is rescued by a stone-age tribal people known as the Yanomami. Based on the authors' own true life experiences, the plot of Amazon Diary emerges through Alex's journal entries while living among the Yanomami. Unique in its collage style use of photography, illustration, and hand-written text, Amazon Diary re-creates the experience of contact with a quickly disappearing culture from a kid's point of view.
Hudson journeyed into the depths of the Amazon Rainforest by dugout canoe with his photographer friend and co-author Mark Greenberg, as they accompanied Dr. John Walden on his mission to bring much-needed malaria medicine to remote tribal people. AMAZON DIARY is based on their experiences among the Yanomami.
